saturated with colour...

It is a bit of a trek, but anyone who is in the vicinity of New Mexico must check out the forthcoming photography exhibition entitled 'Saturated with Colour' at the Verve Gallery, Santa Fe.

I am mesmerized by the work of Californian based artist Jeffery Becom who has travelled the world capturing colour and in particular this latest collection of images which are featured along with 2 x other artist in this exhibition.

Becom considers his photographs to be documentary: the colors, subjects and details captured as found. His signature subject and style is the sensuous use of color to transform architectural imagery into lush, painterly, colorist compositions.

Becom is quoted in the run up to the event to say:

“... India is synonymous with brilliant colors, myriad faiths and some of the earliest societies on earth and that colour and faith profoundly envelop Indian life on all levels.

His images taken in Rajasthan, India are phenomenal and puts the photos I took there last month to shame...It excites me so much to think that I have only scratched the surface of this incredible country & that there is so much more to discover as Lala Moon takes shape.

'Saturated with Colour' runs from 9th July (opening reception) until 28th August 2010.

Whilst in Jaipur last month I had the pleasure to meet a friend of a friend (aren't friends great!) - Sophia Edstrand.

Swedish born Sophia lives and works in Jaipur as creative assistant of the reputed jewelry designer Marie-Hélène de Taillac. Additionally, more recently Sophia has started created her own couture accessories Sophia 203, a range of jewelry, belts and hairpieces - which are fabulous and are already creating a stir in the fashion world. This month Sophia 203 features in Japanese Elle.

Sophia's uses a rare technique of embroidery and weaving, mostly used for the traditionnal wedding jewelry in Rajasthan, India. Her inspiration, as well as the name, comes from her surroundings and travels, her passion for colors and everything that glimmers

It is Sophia's Birthday today, so Happy Birthday Sophia!

would anyone like...?

I found these on my travels - thoughts??

picture frame/ mirror - each and every piece is unique

Anyone for papier mache?

I am thinking to stock these great bowls and picture frames - I'm thinking to simplify the detail slightly, add different shapes and produce in vibrant blues, greens and this great pink! What do you think?

Of course, there are the more typical papier mache bangles and flowery bowls...anyone interested in these bangles???
comments and feedback please greatly appreciated..

Star Mela.....

Stunning Star Mela...

Remember these bags ??!... Elliot Man & JADEtribe

www.starmela.co.uk

Remember the sensational bags by Elliot Man and JADEtribe featured here a while back?...Well, it would seem that Lala Moon are ahead of the fashion pack!!....Since returning from India, I have picked up 2 x publication both of which feature veryyyy similar bags, bought to you this time by the superb Star Mela ...and, the best news of all is that they are readily available via www.starmela.co.uk.

There is no doubting that Elliot Man's bags are the real thing. In the bazaars of Delhi I saw plenty of attempts at creating colourful totes using exquisite old Indian textiles....perhaps, Lala Moon will create it's own range!! WATCH THIS SPACE!

JADEtribe annoyingly had sumptuous bags but were impossible to get hold off aaaahhh... therefore Star Mela is the way to go.

Bags range from 35 uk sterling to 150 sterling

Star Mela is definitely worth a look at for all their other beach inspired clothing..

Rajasthan oozes vibrance with senstational colours, smells and an energy like no other... all the people I met were so friendly and eager to assist and passionate about their country..India is certainly buzzing and there is something highly addictive about this wonderful country...

art in motion.....

A little something for the petrol heads amongst you!

Look at the attention to detail and the stunning colours of these vehicles! Wouldn't it be great if more people chose to let loose their creativity on their cars!!

In India it is said that different regions have different styles and that buses and lorries are identified by their art work..but probably most famous of all are the lorries of Pakistan which are pieces of art in motion....

on my way.......

on my way....to the land of:

colour

block printing

markets

Sorry for the absence - I am back now, having moved house, put my life in storage and upped sticks leaving my beloved Argentina behind.......Ohhhhh, how I hope to return there soon BUT it does depend on a couple of things - lala moon's success being one of them....

Soooo with all this said & done...It is one giant step into the unknown; with a flight to India next week to get the ball rolling & the launch of the website imminent. All VERY exciting BUT very daunting!

To whet your appetite and to inspire here are some images of the things that I will exploring further in Rajasthan...
I have my block print designs ready to go and I can not wait to see these techniques being practiced & I can not wait to get exploring the markets - to have my senses awoken to the rich, exotic and truly exuberant 'India'.
